Turkish State Railways (TCDD) has put the first of its seven new turquoise Velaro train sets into passenger service.

The new German-built trains went into operation on the Ankara-Konya high-speed rail line on May 23.

TCDD’s  320 km/h Velaro will operate six daily services between the two cities.

The eight-car Velaro sets have capacity for 444 passengers.

Siemens was awarded a contract in 2013 to supply seven new Velaro trains for Turkey’s growing high-speed rail network. The units were constructed in Germany before travelling to Sakarya were they were given their turquoise livery and completed a period of dynamic testing.
