Masabi, the developer of mobile ticketing technology for the transport sector, today announced that the mobile rail ticket purchase application it developed for thetrainline.com, now supports most high-end smartphones and everyday handsets.

Mobile users are able to search train times and purchase tickets using a credit or debit card, and then pick-up their tickets at the station. The application will start displaying tickets as secure barcodes on the phone’s screen when rail operators start supporting this feature in the coming months.

Available from all major app stores or by texting TRAIN to 86688, the application has been receiving extremely positive user reviews. Masabi continues to update the application on the basis of user feedback, adding new features and functionality. An advanced Android version boasting a wide range of new features will be launched in the spring.

“While there are millions of phone users in the UK, the majority have been left out of the apps revolution,” said Ben Whitaker, CEO Masabi. “We are delighted to be working with thetrainline.com to allow users to buy tickets anywhere, anytime on everyday handsets as well as high-end smartphones.”

“Masabi’s in-depth knowledge of both mobile technology and UK rail made them the ideal partner to help bring our mobile ticketing app to the masses,” said Richard Rowson, Product Development Director, thetrainline.com.

“We have been delighted with the positive feedback that we’ve received and the consistent growth in user numbers. We look forward to evolving the product to offer new features, including barcode ticketing which will make queuing at the station a thing of the past.”
