Work underway on Tashkent metro expansion in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan Railways has issued an update on three projects to expand the Tashkent metro that are worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Deputy chair Oybek Khudoyqulov said that work is underway on the construction of the Sergeli and Yunusabad lines, as well as the metro ring line in the capital city.

The Sergeli line will be 7.1km-long and is expected to open in 2020.

Currently more than 100 engineers from German, Italian, Chinese and Serbian companies are working on the 2.93km-long Yunusabad line. Construction is expected to be complete in 2019.

Meanwhile the 52.1km-long subway ring line is due for competition in 2021. It will include 35 substations and pass through the districts of Yashnobod, Uchtepa, Olmazor, Yunusabad, Chilanzar and Sergeli.
