Talgo to supply Riyadh-Dammam high-speed trains

Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) has awarded Talgo a contract for six new 350 series high-speed trains.

The new units, which will be almost identical to those Talgo is supplying for the Haramain high-speed line between Mecca and Madinah, will operate between Riyadh and Dammam.

Talgo president Carlos de Palacio said the manufacturer’s role in supplying the rolling stock for the Mecca-Madinah line had been “decisive” in this $200 million success.

The trains, which will have diesel-electric traction, will operate at speeds of 200 km/h and cut journey times along the route.

Like the Haramain trains, the new units will include coatings and films designed to keep out sand and protect from the heat during desert running.
