Services on SunRail’s new 27.7km southern expansion were launched on July 30 in Florida.
Four new stations have been built on the extension:Â Meadow Woods in Orange County as well as Tupperware, Kissimmee and Poinciana in Osceola County.
Orange County mayor Teresa Jacobs joined community leaders and representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration for the inaugural ride a few days before the service’s launch.

Mayor Jacobs said: “The completion of SunRail underscores the value of collaboration and partnership. During my time as commissioner and mayor, I have seen this project go from a pipe dream, to no dream, to back on track. We wouldn’t be here today without our partnerships in the public and private sectors.”
Phase 1 of the SunRail commuter rail system is 51.5km-long with 12 stations and was launched in May 2014. The southern expansion is one of two parts to Phase 2. The second part, the Northern Expansion, will link DeBary to DeLand in Volusia County on a 19.6km segment with one new station.
