A new section of the Chengdu Metro in Western China has begun commercial service.
Phase 2 of Line 4 – which is 20.3km long with 14 stations – was official opened today (June 2), 18 months after Phase 1 was opened.
Chengdu Line 4 is 41.3km long and is part of the city’s core metro network connecting a total of 30 stations.
The traction system for Line 4 was supplied by Alstom. In total 324 metro cars were fitted with the systems following the awarding of two contracts by Chengdu Metro in 2013 and 2015.
Alstom supplied the OptONIX system for Line 4, which has been designed and developed for the Chinese market. It includes traction inverters, motors, auxiliary converters and a train monitoring system. The OptONIX system is designed to improve operational performance and reduce life cycle costs by using regenerative electrical braking.
All traction systems are manufactured by Alstom’s joint venture, Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment, in China.
