Meet the unsung heroes who clean metro cars in San Francisco

Behind the scenes they mop, scrub and sanitise passenger trains to keep them in tip-top condition.

Cleaners – unsung heroes of the industry – are rarely seen by the public but thanks to one operator in San Francisco, passengers have been given a rare glimpse into their often thankless work.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has released the above video revealing the extent of work undertaken to keep on top of cleaning a fleet of around 670 vehicles.

BART cars are cleaned multiple times a day on its network thanks to crews that are based at designated locations, who pick up litter and spot clean, with deeper cleaning taking place at night.
