PT INKA, a government-owned rolling stock manufacturer in Indonesia, has announced it is looking to build passenger trains for Chicago.

Public transport operator Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is currently looking to acquire hundreds of new passenger trains over the next five years.

In addition, it is modernising its existing passenger trains, some of which are more than 30 years-old.

After meeting representatives from the CTA, Indonesia’s state envoy in Chicago, Rosmalawati Chalid, said that Indonesia hopes to enter the bidding process and supply trains to Chicago.

She said: “There is an opportunity for Indonesia to market passenger trains to the Chicago Transit Authority based in Chicago, USA.

“Hundreds of passenger trains made by PT INKA have been exported to Bangladesh.

“I hope the carriage made by PT INKA can enter the US market to meet the needs of new carriages in the context of modernising CTA.”
