21st Annual Channel Tunnel safety exercise

Listen to this article

The annual Channel Tunnel bi-national safety exercise will take place during the night of Saturday 8 to Sunday 9 January 2011 and will involve emergency services from both the UK and France. This is the only initiative on this scale worldwide. Safety is Eurotunnel’s principal priority and the organisation of this exercise represents an average outlay of €200,000 and the mobilisation of significant human and material resources.

This year’s scenario will not be made public until after the exercise has been completed so that the emergency services are able to fully test their response planning and effective coordination.

A significant number of emergency services personnel and vehicles are expected be at the Folkestone terminal during the night to take part in the exercise. Vehicles will be seen arriving with blue lights flashing. This is all part of the exercise and just one element of the emergency services response.

Modifications have been made to the Passenger and Truck Shuttle timetables and customers have been informed in advance by email with information available on the Eurotunnel website.
