The Bangkok Skytrain’s first new metro train for the Green line is ready for shipment after rolling off the factory line.

Production of the train began in April 2017 at vehicle manufacturer Bozankaya’s factory in Ankara, Turkey.

At the end of June it will begin its 15,000km, six-week journey when it is transported from the facility to the Turkish port of Borusan-Gemlik.

Arrival at the Thai port of Laem Chabang in August will be followed by static and dynamic commissioning in Bangkok, including test runs on the Green line.

In total, Siemens and Bozankaya are manufacturing 22 new four-car trains for the Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company (BTSC) in Thailand.

The pair were awarded the contract, which also includes a 16-year maintenance deal, in May 2016. These trains are part of BTSC’s project to add more trains to the existing Green line and its extensions.

Siemens’ scope includes the supply of bogies, traction and braking systems, auxiliary systems, as well as the project management, design/engineering and commissioning of the trains. Separately, Siemens will also be completing electrification for the Green line extension.

The new metro trains will boost the capacity of the line to over one million passengers a day. They will have a maximum speed of 80km/h and a standing capacity of 1,460.

Siemens Mobility CEO Sabrina Soussan said: “The innovative construction of the car body reduces energy consumption and increases passenger capacity by providing an optimised interior layout.

“Four doors on each side of the cars enable passengers to board and leave the train rapidly, reducing dwell times at stations and increasing system capacity.

“Passenger comfort is enhanced by a particularly effective high-performance air-conditioning system.”
