Dalgety Bay has become the one hundredth Scottish railway station to be ‘’adopted’’ by members of its local community and nearby Rosyth station has followed it as the 101st.
Members of Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay Rotary Club, which also covers Rosyth, have agreed to provide and maintain decorative floral planters at both stations. The club members will take it in turns to water, weed and care for the displays as part of ScotRail’s ever growing Adopt a Station initiative.
Passengers travelling to and from both stations will now have their journeys enhanced by the floral displays which will be changed by the Rotarians throughout the year.
The substantial planters were manufactured by Timbercraft, a local company with connections to Rotary.
Stations throughout Scotland have been made more attractive to the travelling public through local communities providing and maintaining floral displays.
John Yellowlees, External Relations Manager for train operator ScotRail, said at the recent handover ceremony at Dalgety Bay station: “We are delighted that Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay Rotary Club have taken the number of ScotRail stations adopted by volunteer gardeners to, and beyond, the three figure mark.
“It is a remarkable achievement, with the Adopt a Station initiative yet to celebrate its fifth anniversary. It is also appropriate that the 100 plus breakthrough has been achieved with Rotarians since we already have clubs maintaining floral displays at Falkirk Grahamston and High, Larbert, Alloa and Newcraighall stations.‘’
Local MSP Helen Eadie, who also attended the ceremony, said: “I just want to congratulate everyone involved in such a fine initiative, and to thank them for making the stations so welcoming for visitors and commuters alike.”
Bob Tait, President of Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay Rotary Club, said that while the club was already very active in the local community, members were especially pleased to be involved with the new project at the two stations.
He added: “I am confident that the floral displays will be appreciated by rail travellers and local residents as is the case for the displays we already support at Aberdour’s award winning station.’’
