CAF and Alstom to supply more trains for Barcelona metro


Spanish rolling stock manufacturer CAF has signed a €75 million deal with public transport authority Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona to supply 10 trains for the Barcelona metro.

The order covers four Series 6000 trains for Line 1, two Series 5000 trains for Line 3 and four more Series 5000 trains for Line 5.

The new ten units are scheduled for delivery from the second half of 2019.

CAF has previously supplied more than 100 units to the Barcelona metro.

In addition, Alstom is set to supply two Series 9000 trains for Line 4 for €17m, deliveries beginning in the second half of 2019.

The new rolling stock aims to improve peak hour capacity from Monday through to Friday by 20 per cent by 2020.
