Alstom used the 1520 International Railway Exhibition to announce the creation of a new Russian S&T research centre.

Alstom, TMH, Research and the Design Institute for Information Technology, the Automation and Communication in Railway Transport (NIIAS) and Skolkovo Foundation agreed to set up an R&D facility in the Skolkovo technological cluster near Moscow by the end of the year.

The centre will develop systems, based on those used by Alstom and NIIAS technologies, for conventional and high-speed railways.

For Alstom, the agreement shows a further commitment to the Russian rail market. Alstom already hold major stakes in several Russian joint ventures, manufacturing trains and trams for Russian heavy and light rail networks.
