National Express East Anglia confirms that the 17.31 Sudbury – Marks Tey train service collided with a road tanker at Sewage Lane Crossing near Bures at 17.37 this evening. There were around 20 passengers on board. Our teams are working with Network Rail and British Transport Police to manage the incident at the site.

Train services are being replaced by a bus service on the Sudbury – Marks Tey route for the remainder of this evening and throughout tomorrow.
An investigation into the incident will be led by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch. The British Transport Police has issued a statement saying that “a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving”. The man is believed to be the driver of the lorry.
