Colchester rail commuters will soon benefit from 25% off bus tickets thanks to the Station Travel Plan promotion to encourage travel by bus.

The specially priced £48 PlusBus monthly ticket is being offered by Colchester’s local bus companies: First group, Network Colchester and Hedingham to help more people reduce the costs and environmental impact of driving, by using the bus for travel to Colchester station.

Customers can take advantage of the offer by buying their PlusBus ticket at Colchester station ticket office.

The discount, which is a saving of over 70p per day compared to a typical day return bus ticket, is available between 6 November 2011 and 31 January 2012.

Improvements have also been made to bus timetables and facilities for passengers waiting for buses at the station.

Buses are now ‘better coordinated with trains’ and new stops and bus timetable information is now installed on the station forecourt.

Linda McCord of Passenger Focus said:

“This Station Travel Plan bus promotion has come about as a result of the Partnership working well together to offer passengers a number of good incentives to use buses to travel to and from the station.

“This includes good value for money through the discounted fare, integrated ticketing and good, clear bus information. Passenger Focus research shows these as being top priorities for passengers.”

Julian Elliot of First said:

“First Group, Network Colchester and Hedingham are pleased to offer this bus discount to customers from November – January.

“PlusBus is the national combined bus and rail ticket and through the Station Travel Plan promotion Colchester station commuters will benefit from unlimited, all day every day travel on Colchester’s urban bus network.”

James Reeve NXEA’s Colchester Station Manager said:

“Commuters simply need to ask for the discount at Colchester station’s ticket office and if already using a rail season ticket show this to ticket office staff in order to purchase their discounted plusbus ticket.”
