Brentwood Station Upgrade officially opened

Councillor Tracey Chapman, Cabinet Member for Highways & Transportation at Essex County Council has officially opened the newly upgraded Brentwood station. The station has been significantly upgraded by operator National Express East Anglia (NXEA) over the past year through a £1.5m investment as part of the National Stations Improvement Programme. The contractor for the improvements works at Brentwood is C. Spencer and the improved facilities include:

  • Construction of a brand new and relocated ticket office
  • More spacious and customer-friendly entrance hall
  • Provision of improved self-service ticket machines and a new retail kiosk
  • A new canopy across the station entrance
  • Improvements to customer toilets and waiting areas
  • Improved signage, lighting and CCTV
  • Additional cycle parking
  • A much improved environment and asset for the local community

Andrew Chivers, Managing Director, National Express East Anglia said: “The completion of this significant and welcome investment in improving customer facilities at Brentwood station is the first of a number of  improvement schemes we are progressing across our network, as part of the National Stations Improvement Programme. At Brentwood we have worked to meet our customers’ aspirations for better ticketing facilities and information, improved security and more cycle parking.”

John Slade, Operations Director for Spencer said: “We are proud that thanks to a strong partnership between ourselves and National Express, we have been able to deliver significant improvements to this station whilst it was fully operational. Everyone’s hard work has paid off, with an improved station which will serve the community well. I am sure commuters will appreciate the new look, as well as the extra facilities which mean this much-loved station will be able to cater for the practical needs of any traveller.”
