The overhaul of Flying Scotsman took a major step forward on March 25th, when its boiler and frames were reunited at the Bury workshop of Riley and Son Ltd.
Owned by the National Railway Museum, the Flying Scotsman was the first locomotive to be officially achieve 100mph and will return to York at the end of May, where the sole surviving A3 will be displayed on the National Railway Museum’s turntable in wartime LNER black livery.
Initially it is planned to run Flying Scotsman on the East Lancashire Railway, before it embarks on a programme of main line tours later this year. By which time the A3 will have been painted in LNER apple green.
