In May 2009, Iarnród Éireann contracted Frequentis for the set up of  ‘Communication Terminals for Signalling Control Operators’.

The project’s aim was an integrative system for telephone, analogue train radio and the future deployment of GSM-R based on the Fixed Terminal System FTS 3020 including VoIP -based dispatcher terminals of the DICORA family.

Iarnród Éireann’s focus was to update the analogue train radio according to the international standard UIC 751-3, as well as the track side telephone via a customised QSIG interface. Both interfaces were successfully integrated and even more, due to this UIC standard Frequentis developed a special Line Interface as well as a dedicated Graphical User Interface.

“We are extremely happy to have Frequentis as our partner. It was a really professional and cooperative partnership and co-operation from the very beginning. The transition to the next system was extremely smooth and our controllers adapted to the new environment within a minimum time.We have invested in a future-proof solution, particularly when looking ahead at GSM-R,” said Mr. Ronan Finlayson, Iarnród Éireann Manager of DART Signalling & National Telecoms.

Frequentis Public Transport develops, manufactures and installs voice communication and dispatching systems for railway infrastructure organisations and municipal public transport organisations. The technology offered to Ireland has been time tested and proven dependable in over 17 nations.
