A VolkerFitzpatrick-Kier joint venture is the project's civil works contractor and Doppelmayr Cable Car UK is supplying the APM system.

The European Investment Bank has announced an investment of more than €1.7 billion on improved rail transport in Europe and North Africa. 

The factory took almost three years to plan and construct is set to make up to 600,000 sleepers a year, primarily for German railways.

The recommendation draws on new geological research, innovations in tunnel technology and other factors but echoes advice made in a 2004 pre-feasibility which also assessed a link across the Strait of Belle Isle.
