Southeastern today announced that it will be providing an extra 60 trains to help get runners of the Virgin London Marathon to the start line. The trains will operate on the morning of Sunday 17 April.

With 36,000 runners expected to take part in this year’s race, Southeastern will be doing their bit to help runners to get to the start on time. Extra services from Charing Cross, Waterloo East and London Bridge will be provided and all marathon competitors with a valid number will be able to travel from these stations for free.

Vince Lucas, Southeastern service delivery director said, “The marathon is one of the biggest events on the London calendar and we are proud to be able to play our part in helping to get runners off to a flying start. It is going to be a very busy day so we would ask everyone to make sure that they leave plenty of time to complete their journeys. Finally we want to wish everyone good luck for the day.”

The extra services will be running to one of three stations, Blackheath, Greenwich and Maze Hill where runners will be able to get to their start point. All three stations are approximately a 20-minute walk from the actual start points. Marathon wardens will be on hand to direct people to the start points.

As well as the extra trains from the London termini there will be additional services from Kent to ensure runners can get in from the likes of Dover, Ashford, Hastings and Gillingham. For further information about all of the additional services, visit Southeastern’s website.
