Subterráneos de Buenos Aires (SBASE) has awarded Alstom a €17 million contract to renew the power supply for Line B of the city’s metro network.

Line B already serves around 250,000 passengers a day and the project is expected to increase this capacity.

The project will cover the design, assembly and commissioning of medium voltage ring cables, third rail power and tunnel disconnections as well as modifications to substations and other complementary systems.

The decision was announced by Alstom on April 20 following an international public procurement process.

Michel Boccaccio, senior vice-president of Alstom Latin America, said: “With this project, Alstom confirms its long-time partnership with SBASE, providing efficient and reliable solutions that contribute to the efficiency and quality of the service offered to the population of Buenos Aires.”

Alstom’s work on the 10km line, which has been in operation since 1930, is expected to be complete by the middle of 2018.
