Polish State Railways signs final major contract to reconstruct part of Warsaw line

Polish State Railways (PKP) has signed a third and final major contract to reconstruct part of the Warsaw-Dorohusk line.

It concerns the section between Otwock and Pilawa where PKP will rebuild six railway viaducts, build five new underpasses for pedestrians and add a 26km second track.

In addition it will include upgrading the existing railway and some of the stations, modernising 12 vehicle crossings and rebuilding existing railway bridges.

PKP said the deal on the line – which is known as line 7 – is worth 480 million zlotys (around €114 million).

An agreement has also been made with the Undersecretary of State in the Minister for Infrastructure and Construction, Andrzej Bittel, to develop a design for the modernisation of the section between Warsaw and Otwock.

Once it is complete, it will mean trains will be able to run at 160 km/h and the travel time between the two destinations will be reduced.
